Classic among Tuscan wines, Brunello di Montalcino is one of the best known and appreciated red wines all over the world and the Banfi winery, starting from the clonal selection studies of the best Sangiovese grapes, has produced an intense, elegant and balanced Brunello di Montalcino wine both in structure and in aromas.
From the clonal selection studies of the best Sangiovese grapes comes Brunello di Montalcino Castello Banfi, a Tuscan red wine with excellent persistence and great aging potential.
Grapes variety: Sangiovese
Soil: hilly area characterized by clayey sands of the marine Pliocene and blue-gray clays. The former have deep soils with abundant and calcareous stones, the latter instead moderately deep, mineral soils with a tendency to retain moisture
Training system: spurred cordon - Banfi sapling
Plant density: 2400 - 5500 cp / ha.
Yield per hectare: 65 q / ha.
Fermentation: at a controlled temperature (25-30°) in combined steel vats and Horizon French oak
Aging: 80% in 60 and 90 hl French oak barrels. and 20% in 350 l French oak barrels. for at least 2 years
Alcohol: 15% vol
Color: Ruby red with light garnet reflections.
Nose: sweet and fruity aroma with strong hints of red fruit in jam, perfectly balanced with notes of licorice and pipe tobacco
Palate: Soft and smooth tannins well integrated with a marked acidity that gives this Brunello a lively and powerful structure.
Pairings: excellent with rich and tasty meat dishes and aged cheeses. Perfect as a meditation wine.
