La Segreta Rosso Planeta winery

Sicilian nature inside and outside the bottle

La Segreta red wine is born from the native Sicilian Nero d'Avola vine blended with international Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc grapes. A young and fresh wine produced by the Planeta family since 1995 which takes its name from the forest surrounding the ancient vineyards owned by Ulmo. The bond of this wine with nature is also taken up by the new label which depicts the Sicilian flora and expresses a hidden and powerful beauty grasped only by those who know how to admire it.

La Segreta Red Wine 2021 – Planeta Cellars

La Segreta Rosso is a blend mainly of Nero d'Avola with international grapes in a smaller percentage which give it style and personality. A young red rich in aromas that expresses the strong bond with Sicilian nature. Its new label, depicting herbs, flowers and roots, is in fact inspired by the Sicilian flora and the "picto herbarium" created by the illustrious Sicilian Giuseppe Riggio with the help of a painter of the time.

The grapes were moved three times a day with very short pumping overs - between 12 and 25 minutes - depending on the stage of fermentation, in order to respect the skin and the fruit as much as possible. Fermentation lasted 7/8 days, the temperature in the early stages was kept around 16-17 °C and then, approaching its conclusion, the refrigeration was suspended and the last degrees of alcohol took place with temperatures between 24 -25°C. Once the fermentation was over, the skins were drawn off. The malolactic fermentation took place in the same tanks; once concluded, between November and December, after the racking following the malolactic fermentation, the refinement began, always in steel tanks.
