A refined blend produced from Nero d’Avola and Merlot grapes, aged at length in wooden barrels to produce a red wine with great personality, it has a strong character with a well-balanced combination of colour, bouquet and flavour. Grown on land that is part of the Suor Marchesa estate.

CLASSIFICATION - Typical Geographical Indication Sicily (IGT). 
1st YEAR OF PRODUCTION - Vintage year 1998. 
PRODUCTION AREA - Central-southern Sicily, municipality of Butera in the territory of Riesi. SuorMarchesa estate.
SOIL - Mixed calcareous-siliceous composition. 
ALTITUDE - From 290 to 340 meters above sea level
VINEYARDS Upward and bush-trained vineyards, high planting density with low yield per hectare. 
CLIMATE Mild winters with hot and very dry springs, summers and autumns. 
VINTAGE By hand, at full maturity (from mid-September to early October, depending on the variety). 
VINIFICATION Destemming of the grapes and traditional, separate macerations, 8 to 12 days (28° - 30° C.). After the wines are blended the malolactic fermentation is completed. 
AGEING At least 10 - 12 months in fine-grained oak barriques. 
MATURING After bottling, 10 - 12 months in cellar at controlled temperature (15° - 16° C.) to develope its bouquet. 
TASTING Colour - deep, ruby red with garnet red highlights. Aroma - complex, intense, spicy, with marked notes of morell cherry and vanilla. Flavour - warm, velvety well-bodied and aromatically persistent. 
ALCOHOL CONTENT - 14%. 
MEAN ANNUAL PRODUCTION 70,000 750-ml. bottles, 800 1,500-ml. magnum bottles and 350 3,000-ml. double magnum bottles. 
SERVING TEMPERATURE - 16° - 18° C. 
RECOMMENDED GLASS - Transparent long-stemmed balloon glass. 
RECOMMENDED WITHEspecially with dishes of red meat, game and some aged cheeses. 
STORING - Reclined bottle in cool (15° C.) room, not too moist. 
LIFE - More than 10 years if kept in cellars with suitable conditions.
