Nero d’Avola is Sicily’s oldest native grape and rightly deserving of the high acclaim which it now receives.
Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio are smaller players amongst Sicily’s leading red grapes but are key natives around Mount Etna. The two are blended to create Etna Rosso.
Cerasuolo di Vittoria, which blends Frappato and Nero d’Avola, is more famous in the south east around Ragusa.
Other red grapes include Calabrese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah (originally from southern France).

Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG Avide

An important wine made from grapes called "Frappato" and "Nero D'Avola". It's respectful of Cerasuolo's tradition. Its intens and persistent scent recalls a ripe pomegranate. Its deep colour is like a cherry. It would be better to uncork the bottle one hour before and to serve it at 18°-20° C. about.

The Cerasuolo di Vittoria D.O.C.G. to which give also a particular value because it represents the territory, is constituted by the most known nero d'Avola and by the frappato. The union of these two vines handed to a wine that has persistence and body of the nero d'Avola together with the perfumes and freshness of the frappato. Drink it with a meat menu. 
Mamertino Rosso DOC Vasari

Deep red colour , bearing fruit with a distinctive character , full-bodied , big and persisting on the palate. Aged for six months in small American oak barrels. Grape varieties : Nero d'Avola and Nocera.
Vigna di Pettineo (Cerasuolo di Vittoria D.O.C.G.) Maggio
Considered the top of Sicilian enology as to be the only one, to date, to deserve mention DOCG with the Presidential Decree of 29/05/73, Cerasuolo di Vittoria Vigna di Pettineo can also use the label "Classic" being produced in the City of Vittoria. Perfect blend of Nero d'Avola and Frappato that ensure the right balance between structure and perfumes.

Among the red wines of the Planeta Cellars we offer you the Mamertino, whose name dates back to when the Mamertinis produced this wine described by Pliny and loved by Julius Caesar in Milazzo. It is a Sicilian blend of Nero d'Avola and Nocera grapes grown in The Baronia vineyard in Capo Milazzo. The Barone Lucifero Foundation, owner of the fund, uses part of the proceeds for socio-cultural and recreational activities for children in the Milazzo area.
