Wines Sicilian

Many grapes are made into raisins, used in local cooking, and Sicilian grapes also play a large role in creating dessert wines, which require a higher concentration of grapes and are consumed in smaller quantities. In fact, in the world of international wine, Sicily is renowned for the many outstanding dessert wines, such as the world-famous Marsala, Moscato di Pantelleria & Malvasia delle Lipari. 

The traditional varieties cultivated on the island include: red grape varieties such as Nero d'Avola (today experiencing a significant renaissance in the market), Nerello Cappuccio and Mascalese, Carricante, Nocera, Perricone and Frappato; white grape varieties such as Catarratto, Grecanico, Grillo, Inzolia, Malvasia delle Lipari and Zibibbo or Moscato.
In addition to the traditional varieties listed above, today there are numerous non-traditional varieties grown on the island which include: red varieties such as Cabernet-Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc and Merlot; white varieties such as Chardonnay, Viognier, Muller Thurgau and Sauvignon blanc.

Only the best Moscato (100%) grapes are selected, grown at 50 metres above sea level on the Baroni Estate in Noto. The grapes are dried producing a wine golden in colour with intense and persistent perfume of oranges, peaches, apricots and orange flowers. Harmonious, gentle and elegant. On the palate it is quite sweet, fresh, well balanced, mounthfilling and persistent.

Ginolfo Baglio di Pianetto

100% Viognier, we believe this excellent grape represents a wine for the future which is not yet very well known in Sicily. The wine shows the skills of the Sicilian winemaking techniques. The green harvest, the sun, the altitude and the meticulous selection of grapes are matured for three mounths in barriques, giving extra complexity to this wine.
Ficiligno Baglio di Pianetto

The grapes Viognier (50%) and Insolia (50%), are grown at 650 metres above sea level on the Pianetto Estate in S. Cristina Gela; they are mixed together to produce a wine that is fresh and elegant wuth intense and persistent aromas; in the beginning there are floral notes, then slowly the change to tropical fruits.
Chianu Carduni Baglio di Pianetto
The grapes Petit Verdot (100%) are grown at 650 metres above sea level in the Pianetto Estate in S. Cristina Gela. It is a rich and complex wine matured in Allier oak barrels for 14 mounths. Intense nose, lightly herbaceous with hints of liquorice, bitter cocoa and balsamic notes and spices. Intense red colour with a big strucureand persistent finish. Excellent axample of a great wine.

Cembali - Cellar Baglio di Pianetto

The grapes Nero D’Avola (100%) selected for Cembali are produced from vineyards (8625 wines per herctare) sligtly inclined on the Baroni Estate in the area of Noto, historically known for producing Nero D'Avola. The grapes are matured in Allier barriques for 14 mounths. Ruby colour with a complex aroma of black fruit and spices. Rich, deep and generous with a very long length.
Salici Baglio di Pianetto
Salici 100% Merlot, the grapes benefit from the difference in temperatures between day and night that is characteristic of the Pianetto area. After the vinification the wine is matured for 12 mounths in Allier oak barrels. Ruby colour with garnet hue, on the nose one detects blackberries, blackcurrants, vanilla and toasted bread.

This is one of Sicily’s best loved vines, the most Sicilian of the Sicilian varieties, and the most ubiquitous of all varieties on the island. It is now well known all over the world, prompting countries with new wine traditions to attempt imitations to no avail. 
Syrah Cellar Torrepalino

It is unclear whether the name derives originally from the Persian city of Shyraz or from Siracuse, a town in which it may have been cultivated in the past. Cultivated primarily and with great success in France, in northern Rodan, where it gave life some of the greatest red French wines.

Merlot Cellar Torrepalino

This French vine species is originally from Gironde. It had a leading role to play in creating some of the most celebrated Bordeaux wines. It appeared in Italy in 1800, spreading through the entire peninsula, and married extremely well with many native varieties. Merlot Patria’s properties heighten the senses in the way only a good wine can and make it stand out from other classic red wines.
