Wines Sicilian

Many grapes are made into raisins, used in local cooking, and Sicilian grapes also play a large role in creating dessert wines, which require a higher concentration of grapes and are consumed in smaller quantities. In fact, in the world of international wine, Sicily is renowned for the many outstanding dessert wines, such as the world-famous Marsala, Moscato di Pantelleria & Malvasia delle Lipari. 

The traditional varieties cultivated on the island include: red grape varieties such as Nero d'Avola (today experiencing a significant renaissance in the market), Nerello Cappuccio and Mascalese, Carricante, Nocera, Perricone and Frappato; white grape varieties such as Catarratto, Grecanico, Grillo, Inzolia, Malvasia delle Lipari and Zibibbo or Moscato.
In addition to the traditional varieties listed above, today there are numerous non-traditional varieties grown on the island which include: red varieties such as Cabernet-Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc and Merlot; white varieties such as Chardonnay, Viognier, Muller Thurgau and Sauvignon blanc.

Caselle Etna Bianco DOC Benanti

Its name seems to attributed by the vine-grovers of Viagrande because of its characteristics of allowing a good, constant production over the years. The bunches, at ripeness, are of average length usually, and scattered; the grape is of medium-sized with very pruinose skin and a greenyellowish color. The pulp is juicy and the taste is simple and sweet.

A document of 1340 chronicles a dispute before the royal, court concerning the possession of a particularly sought after fief in the district of "Casalj Rabitallavi”. This was the ancient name of Tenuta Rapitalà. Vigna Casalj di Rapitalà is a Sicilian white wine made from Catarratto grapes, with clear Mediterranean references of sage, tomato leaf and capers. The terroir gives it freshness and minerality.

Some rain during the early part of 2003 restored the soil’s water reserves. The flowering and the setting followed their normal course. The summer was very hot and dry, but growth developed steadily. The vines, for long periods close to stress conditions, acquired a rich reserve of polyphenols enhanced by a sunny and airy August which enabled them to reach full phenolic maturation.
