Nero d'Avola Sicilia DOC Sherazade 2022 - Donnafugata estate

A wine with a profound Mediterranean character, Sherazade is a red wine with a fruity bouquet with hints of plum and cherry which are also combined with hints of delicate spiciness (black pepper) and balsamic notes. Sherazade amazes with its freshness, pleasantness and fragrance. The name of this Donnafugata label refers to the Arab world and specifically to Sherazade, the girl protagonist of the collection of fairy tales One Thousand and One Nights, a masterpiece of oriental literature.

Grape Variety: 100% Nero d'Avola

Production Area: South-western Sicily, Tenuta di Contessa Entellina and neighboring territories

Altitude: from 200 to 400 meters above sea level

Soil: clayey soils with sub-alkaline reaction rich in nutritional elements, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, manganese, zinc

Climate: mild winters and dry, windy summers with strong temperature variations between day and night

Training system: counter-espalier

Type of pruning: spurred cordon, leaving 6 to 10 buds for each plant

Density of vines per ha: 4,500-6,000 plants

Grape yield per ha: 75-85 q/ha

Harvest: manual, between the second half of August and the first ten days of September

Vinification: arriving in the cellar, the grapes are selected again on the vibrating table before soft pressing

Fermentation: in steel with maceration on the skins for approximately 6-8 days at 24-25°C

Malolactic fermentation: done

Aging: approximately 4 months in tanks

Bottle refinement: at least 5 months

Analytical data of the wine: total acidity 5.6 g/l, pH 3.45

Alcohol content: 13.5% vol

Color: bright ruby red with violet reflections
