La Bella Sedara 2021 Sicilia DOC - Donnafugata estate

Sedara by Donnafugata is a Nero d'Avola blended with other grape varieties. A quality red wine perfect for drinking at the table every day due to its extraordinary versatility. The label is dedicated to Angelica Sedara, the ambitious and charming green-eyed girl played by Claudia Cardinale in Luchino Visconti's film "Il Gattopardo".

Type: Red wine

Grape Variety: predominantly Nero d'Avola, blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and other grapes

Production zone: Sicily, in specific areas suitable for growing grapes

Altitude: from 200 to 600 m a.m.s.l.

Terrains: clay loam soils with a sub-alkaline reaction (pH 7.5 to 7.9) rich in nutritive elements

Climate: Mild winters with little rainfall. Warm, dry, ventilated summers. Substantial differences between day and night-time temperatures.

Training system: counter-espalier

Type of pruning: spurred cordon

Density of vines per hectare: from 4,500 to 6,000 plants per hectare

Grape yield per hectare: approximately 80–90 quintals/ha

Harvest: manual harvest between the second half of August and September

Fermentation: in steel with maceration on the skins for about 10 days at 25-28°C

Malolactic fermentation: done

Refinement: for 8 months in tanks

Bottle refinement: at least another 6 months

Analytical data of the wine: total acidity 5.2 g/l, pH 3.54

Alcoholic content: 13.5% vol.

Color: Ruby red in color with purple hues

Nose: bouquet with fruity notes of fresh red fruit such as cherry, black cherry and plum, and with spicy hints of black pepper combined with a light balsamic nuance of mint

Palate: pleasant, good structure with soft tannins and a pleasant freshness

Pairings: versatile wine perfect for pairing with lasagna, roast chicken, BBQ and "Tex-Mex" tacos. Try it on freshly seared tuna
