We are at the farthest tip of south eastern Sicily. The taste of Africa jumps out at you not just from the various architectural ruins but also more importantly from the vegetation: olive, carob and almond trees and vines abound. Climate as well recalls Africa with its red, ochre and yellow tones. Three friends founded Azienda Agricola COS, in 1980: Giambattista Cilia, Cirino Strano and Giusto Occhipinti. The acronym of their last names is where the name for the winery – COS – comes from. OUR WINES TELL OUR STORY AND THE STORY OF OUR ANCESTRAL LANDS. For over 3000 years, the Earth has had grape vines. This is an extraordinary gift that we have been given and that we have received with humility and work with in our own way. We are always looking to work as artists in terms of our concept of a wine. This has enabled us to undertake a very difficult path but one that we are fully satisfied with and that we intend to pursue wholeheartedly. For the past 30 years, we have been creating our history and putting it into every glass of our wine, our story, the story of our ancestral lands.
Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a red wine obtained from the blend of Frappato grapes and Nero D'Avola grapes in regulated percentages. It is produced in a large area of the province of Ragusa and in part of the provinces of Caltanissetta and Catania, an area of ancient wine-growing vocation, as evidenced by numerous documents dating back to the III century AC.
The frappato COS is a fresh, soft and fragrant wine. Only 5000 bottles produced. It is aged in vitrified cement tanks and subsequently bottled. The frappato represents the most representative cultivar of the territory of Vittoria not to say of the whole Sicily, together with the Nero d'Avola it becomes part of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria, in the only Sicilian DOCG.
